Quonset Airport
Airport Information
Cindtronix Aviation's main office is located at Quonset State Airport (OQU). An ideal training environment, Quonset features two runways, Runway 16/34 (7,504' long & 150' wide) and Runway 5/23 (4,000' long & 75' wide).
With enough length to accommodate a Boeing 747, the runways are perfect for all types of general aviation operations.
Instrument students also will be pleased to find that Runway 16/34 is serviced by ILS, GPS, VOR, and NDB approaches.
In Spring 2010, our Quonset location will be moving onto the second floor of the new Landmark Aviation facility, a state-of-the building equipped with multiple dedicated ground school rooms, flight briefing and dispatch areas, simulator facilities, CATS testing, a student lounge, and even an exercise room!
Air Traffic Control at Quonset (ATC)
Quonset is a "Class D" airport underlying the Providence "Class C" airspace. Serviced by a FAA Air Traffic Control Tower and Radar Approach Control facility, students will become comfortable communicating with Air Traffic Control (ATC) in a variety of airspace types.
Cindtronix makes this process easy and enjoyable with specialized
computer-based ground instruction tools, including the popular COMM1 Radio Simulator, allowing you to become proficient on the radios before even stepping in the aircraft.
Even more important is the extra level of safety ATC will provide, ensuring all arriving, departing, and en-route flights in its airspace proceed safely, orderly, and expeditiously.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere at Quonset is relaxed, with a mix of business jet and general aviation traffic. The airport vicinity is clear of trees and other obstructions. Occasionally, you may even see one of the many military aircraft based at Quonset departing/arriving, making Quonset an interesting (and historical) place to be!

For practicing airwork, there are three designated sections of airspace: the Scituate, Newport, & Richmond "Practice Areas."
Quonset is located only 23 miles northeast of Westerly State Airport (WST), 8 miles south of T.F. Green Airport (PVD) and 7 miles northwest of Newport State Airport (UUU).
These other airfields provide students with the opportunity to experience both controlled (with a tower) and uncontrolled (without a tower) training environments, an absolute necessity for flying in today's congested airspace.
